Hawkeye REC supports the economic development efforts of area communities by awarding loans through our Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Programs (REDLG), Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), and Policy 80 loans. These programs improve the quality of life for members and the communities we serve.
The loans made available through these funds come in part from grants awarded to Hawkeye by several different sources including the USDA Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant (REDLG) Program. For every dollar Hawkeye invests in a project, five dollars are received through these programs.
Over the past few years Hawkeye has funded over $4.4 million in local projects through the revolving loans and grants. Many of the projects have enhanced our local communities and provided local jobs helping to stabilize our local economic growth. We work with community leaders to expand economic development and create an environment where people want to work and live. Hawkeye REC has invested financial commitments and other resources to improve the economy, health, safety, and quality of life in our communities, through many different projects. Our commitment is strong to our rural economy making Northeast Iowa a place to prosper and grow.
In order to be eligible for an economic development loan, the business or industry must currently be located or planning to locate in Hawkeye’s service territory. This includes all of Howard and Winneshiek counties as well as the northern half of Chickasaw County and portions of Allamakee, Fayette and Mitchell counties.
