New Hampton Transfer and Storage
By Meagan Seele
New Hampton Transfer and Storage is located at 1970 McCloud
Avenue on Highway 63 North in New Hampton, Iowa. The business was developed in
1968 supplying 5,000 square feet of storage warehouses, mainly for Sara Lee
products. Since, they have expanded to over 115,000 dry square feet of warehouse
space. Chip and Darlene Schwickerath of New Hampton own and manage Transfer and
Storage and currently have 9 employees.
In simple terms, it is a "come-in and go-out" exchange business.
They provide storage units and means of transportation for distributors not only
in the mid-west, but across North America. New Hampton Transfer and Storage is
within 300 miles of 6 large distribution cities such as Minneapolis/St. Paul and
Chicago.
On the New Hampton site there are three warehouses. Each is USDA Approved and
Inspected. There are products in the warehouses such as air filtration parts, corrugated boxes and milk powder just to name a few.
Another service that New Hampton Transfer and Storage offers are trailer
units for storage and/or transport. They currently have 300 trailers along with
a number of containerization units. These containers serve as storage
compartments and are then loaded and delivered to other distributors throughout
the country.
The most recent facility is located at the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad
Siding in New Hampton. It is
12,000 square feet of insulated, heated storage
space with two loading docks, and a covered rail bay for all
season loading and
unloading.
Chip and Darlene and their business was recently selected by the University
of Northern Iowa as the Small Business of the Year. Stop by and give New Hampton
Transfer and Storage a visit.
