POWER OUTAGES
Cresco, IA (4:30 p.m. Feb. 22, 2011) —Approximately 62 member locations throughout Chickasaw and Winneshiek counties are still without power, but considering there were close to 700 outages this morning, linecrews are making great progress. Linemen from Tri-County Electric (Rushford, MN) and Riverland Power (Arcadia, WI) have been assisting in the power restoration efforts.
“Plans are to continue working tonight until all the outages are restored ,” says Mike Walton, Hawkeye’s Operations Manager. “Crews have been working hard, long hours. Their safety is our first concern.”
As the temperature has risen today, some of the ice has melted off the lines. This will cause the powerlines to “gallop” and could cause additional outages throughout the night. Please take precautions and make alternate plans in case your location loses power. We urge people to keep safety on the top of their minds too. Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
Members who experience a power outage should call Hawkeye’s 24-hour outage number at 1-800-927-5265 to report the problem. Updates can also be found on our website at www.hawkeyerec.coop.
