POWER OUTAGES
Cresco, IA (9:00 a.m. Feb. 22, 2011) —Hawkeye REC members continue to experience power outages because of the adverse weather conditions. Approximately 655 member locations throughout Chickasaw, Howard and Winneshiek counties are still without power. Crews worked overnight to restore power and additional crews from Tri-County Electric (Rushford, MN) and Riverland Power (Arcadia, WI) have arrived to assist in the power restoration efforts.
“We have made good progress, but there is still work to be done,” says Mike Walton, Hawkeye’s Operations Manager. “Our neighbor cooperative to the west, Heartland Power, is also experiencing significant ice damage and power outages. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding of the complexity of the power outages.”
We urge people to keep safety on the top of their minds. Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately. The ice build-up on trees is causing branches to fall on the power lines. There is also a considerable amount of ice on the power lines which can cause outages if the wind continues to blow.
Members who experience a power outage should call Hawkeye’s 24-hour outage number at 1-800-927-5265 to report the problem. Members in Chickasaw and Winneshiek counties have experienced the greatest damage.
