POWER OUTAGES
Cresco, IA (12:30 p.m. Feb. 22, 2011) —Hawkeye REC members continue to experience extended power outages. Approximately 319 member locations throughout Chickasaw, Howard and Winneshiek counties are still without power. Crews from Tri-County Electric (Rushford, MN) and Riverland Power (Arcadia, WI) have been assisting in the power restoration efforts.
“Crews are doing a great job and we’re making good progress. Wire breaks are the primary damage to the distribution system that we are seeing across the system, with a few broken poles,” says Mike Walton, Hawkeye’s Operations Manager.
“All of the employees of Hawkeye REC, with the valued assistance of our neighboring cooperatives, are in full emergency recovery and have been the past two days,” said CEO Brian Krambeer. “Unfortunately, our cooperative has been in this position before and our employees know their jobs well and are doing everything possible to restore power to our members in a safe and efficient manner.”
We urge people to keep safety on the top of their minds. Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately. The ice build-up on trees is causing branches to fall on the power lines. There is also a considerable amount of ice on the power lines which can cause outages if the wind continues to blow.
Members who experience a power outage should call Hawkeye’s 24-hour outage number at 1-800-927-5265 to report the problem.
