HAWKEYE REC RESTORES ALL POWER OUTAGES
Cresco, IA (9:30 a.m. Feb. 23, 2011) —As of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the last member locations in Chickasaw and Winneshiek counties were restored. The wintry mix of ice and winds starting on Sunday, February 20, caused approximately 700 Hawkeye REC members to lose electric power.
Hawkeye line crews, with help from eight linemen from Tri-County Electric (Rushford, MN) and four linemen from Riverland Power (Arcadia, WI), worked hard, long hours to restore all power.
“We would especially like to thank these crews for their dedication to helping their sister cooperative,” says Mike Walton, Hawkeye’s Operations Manager.
“We would also like to thank our members for their patience and understanding during this extended power outage. Mother Nature caused ice build-up on power lines and the strong winds caused the lines to “gallop”. There were only three broken poles in Chickasaw County because of the wind. The crews will still have clean-up work to do throughout our three-county service territory.
Even though all members now have their power restored, there is still a lot of ice build-up on the power lines and we could still experience isolated power outages. Please call Hawkeye’s 24-hour outage number at 1-800-927-5265.
